A message of Hope

The flags are at half mast, our hearts are broken, and a piece of our innocence shattered. My heart aches for the families of those affected by the tragedy in Connecticut, and I pray they will find peace…eventually. Years ago, I suffered a terrible sadness–on behalf of a friend struggling. I wanted to do more, but my hands were tied.  It was Christmas time, and I should have felt happy, but I couldn’t shake my sadness and concern for my friend.  Singing in church the day before Christmas, the words of the 3rd verse of the song, Away in a Manger, struck me to the core, and have stayed with me.

Be near me, Lord Jesus

I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever

and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children

In they tender care,

And fit us for heaven

to live with thee there.

This verse helped me endure the sadness I felt, and I knew that His Atonement that paid for my sins, also paid for my sorrows. Relying heavily on prayer, I was able to feel His peace and His love, despite my sadness and concern.

 I wanted to share a video that a friend sent me over the weekend. It is a press conference from the father of one of the sweet victims, Emilie Parker. Her dad was the first parent to speak out, and I am so impressed with his faith and understanding of a higher law of agency. He expressed sadness for the family of the shooter, and comfort knowing his sweet Emilie was a ray of light in her time on earth. This man shares my faith, and I think he has a lot to teach others about a message of love, of hope. We can all use that hope.
