Hello everyone! Jes from Mommy Envy here. I’m back from maternity leave and excited to share this recipe with you today. I absolutely loved Kristen’s Welcome to the Neighborhood Gift post because I love inviting friends over for dinner. Summer is a great time for grilling and inviting other families to your home and backyard. This recipe is a great meal idea for large groups and entertaining.
The great thing about making Colossal Dogs is that there’s something for everyone. Â My little sister is a picky eater so she just puts mustard on her hot dog. Â The rest of us piled on the toppings to our hearts content!
A Colossal Dog is piled high with chili and any topping you would enjoy on a salad. Â Basically if you can see the hot dog you need to take another trip down the topping bar line!
In our Colossal Dog Topping bar we had:
- Cucumbers
- Zucchini
- Green Bell Peppers
- Green Onions
- Sweet Peppers
- Banana Peppers
- Jalapenos
- Relish
- Julienned Carrots
- Broccoli Slaw
- Sprouts
- Black Olives
- Chili
- Bacon Bits
- Mustard and Ketchup
It doesn’t take much to get ready to have a lot of people over for dinner with this meal idea.  We chopped all the toppings earlier that day and stored them in bags.  When we were ready to eat we easily put each topping in it’s own bowl.  During clean up we put leftover toppings back in bags and saved them for later.  My family ate Colossal Dogs later that week and I made a salad for lunch several times. We get together with friends regularly for dinner and it’s typical they will ask to bring something. You can always tell them to bring their own favorite salad bar topping. They just might introduce you to a new topping!
What toppings would you add to the topping bar?
