Gettin’ Crafty

I must first preface this with the fact that I DO NOT consider myself uber crafty. I love hand made things, but I usually prefer to find it on etsy already made perfectly, or ask a crafty friend to make it for me (and slip them some cash or offer to swap for pictures). I just don’t have the patience for it most of the time, and I get frustrated. But every once in a while I see something and I get the urge. With all the Valentine’s cards I’ve been making, I’ve been crazy for anything pink and red with hearts. I love to decorate my home for the holidays, and I recently ran around town looking for a few things to add to my small collection of Valentine’s decor. Found 1 or 2 things, but others were just not my style. I found this blog a while ago, but hadn’t been back, but that last few days I’ve been pouring over lots of older posts (check out the top ten of 2009–love it)!

When I saw this lovely topiary, I thought if I was going to break out of my non crafty streak, this would be just the little lady to do it. I grabbed my friend Liz (she was born on Valentine’s day and is due with baby #2 on that day, so is a huge sucker for heart stuff) who also claimed to be non crafty, and we found everything we needed at our local Hobby Lobby. I didn’t even know they sold felt on the bolt, lots of great colors, too. Here is the direct link to the project at The Idea Room.(my 9 year old son took these)

So if you are intimidated by all things crafty, gain some confidence and do it! As I showed it off to my hubby tonight (his shock and awe that I wasn’t in front of the computer) and placed it on top of my piano, I said, “I just love her….almost…maybe just as much as my Lego Man.”

There is something so satisfying to have created something out of your comfort zone, to find it actually turns out well! Thank, Amy at Idea Room for sharing your talents. I’ve got a few other crafties up my sleeve, I just can’t do them fast enough! Too bad I have a long list of other things I am supposed to be doing.

You are craftier than you think. There's got to be a little crafty gene that sneaked in. Very cute!
