I’m delighted to share my gold accent mantel today. I have a love/hate relationship with re-decorating my mantel. I love to see it change around for holidays and in between, but it can be a challenge to make it just perfect for my eyes. There is an awkward time now between Easter and 4th of July, and I thought it would be fun to bring in the GOLD that I’m loving so much lately.
I was asked by PORCH to participate in their Home Treasure Swap challenge with a fellow blogger. What is PORCH, you ask? Think Pinterest meets LinkedIN for Home Improvement. I gathered up a few items that I wasn’t using in my home, and shipped them to my friend Kim at Today’s Creative Blog. She did the same, and this is what I got from her:
Since it was a random gathering of items, it was tricky to think up a project with it. I turned to my trusty friend, the can of spray paint. I LOOOOOVE spray paint, it can make the ugliest item beautiful. Just like furniture, or an old home, if the BONES are good (meaning, the shape or design) a little upcycle does wonders.
Enter my new favorite color–GOLD. I sprayed all the items with gold spray paint, and immediately saw beauty under the plain layers.
I added in some artwork that I had purchased already, and voila:
Pretty much anything can be spray painted and brought to beauty.
The green bucket didn’t fit in on the mantel, so I filled it with pistachio’s!
Here is what I sent to Kim at Today’s Creative Blog
