Mary had a little Lamb~birthday party

Lets just say that I was a little excited to plan, prepare, and throw a party for my 2 year old. These pictures will remind her years down the road because I know she won’t actually remember;) When she was 20 months old, we noticed that her baby mumble was more like the tune of a song–Mary had a little lamb birthday party to be exact.  We realized she had heard it over and over when her big sister would plunk it out on the piano.  She hums/sings it ALL the time, so I thought it would be a fun theme to work around (being right before Easter was QUITE helpful in the lamb category).

I think of pastels with that song, and I don’t love pastels.  So I decided to modernize it a bit with the darker pink, blue, and adding a little yellow to the mix. I ransacked blog-land for ideas, and I had to narrow them down, there were so many fun options.  SO grateful for my friends Lorie and Juliet for helping me be decisive with the table arrangement, and for Juliet making the. cutest. litttle lamb cake for us!  Isn’t she adorable??!!?? Juliet also made the delicious cupcakes.

My friend Aimee from Sprik Space made my sign for me at the last minute (the night before) when I begged her via facebook message.  She is a high school friend who is a great graphic designer and has lots of free printables on her blog. My favorites are the pattern pieces (the yellow chevron zig zag below) because they are in many patterns and colors.  Click on that link to see more.   I found the lamb Lindt chocolates also at Target.

I did a mini photo shoot with my girl in the morning, and printed this 5×7 along with the 11×14 sign at Sams Club 1 hour.  I love quick!  Here is a close up of the 2 shots I was deciding between. I made that dress…oh yes I did.

I made the banner the night before, our houseguest Lindsey helped me cut it out. I purchased the pre made letters at Hobby Lobby, made out of chip board.  I couldn’t do it all, my friends.

The circle banner and streamers definitely made the place festive all around!  After I saw the circles at the zebra shower, I had to try that out myself.  It is just circles cut out of felt (a lot of circles) and with my sewing machine, made one. long. strand.

Just before the party began….she was pretty excited about the table set up.

Since this party was the day before Easter, we combined it with an egg hunt.  We invited the families of her little friends, so there was quite a group.

Below, my older daughter is leading the pack of girls to report the injustice that the boys won’t get off the trampoline and let them have a turn (look close and see my baby trying to get on as well).

It delighted me to see the joy on her little face as she was pushed around in this wagon in our back yard.

Big sister was encouraged to dress the party theme, too.

Above:  I bought a pack of Sunny Delight bottles at Sams Club to use as my “milk bottles.”  I worried about glass breaking, so I improvised.  I then wrapped with ribbon, my circle printable, and cute straws.

Below are the supplies I gathered to decorate:  Paper, fabric, felt, paint, and ribbon in my chosen colors.  I got the straws and printables on etsy from Party Pops–very cute stuff there!

Zig Zag streamers, I found at Oh Happy Day (tutorial there).  I LOVE that my daughter was so excited to help with cutting because it was a bit tedious, but oh so worth it.

So, yes, I made the dress. I sorta combined a few tutorials from MADE’s blog (she has so many great tutorials on there, I want to do so many).  It was a little interesting if you looked close, but I was happy with the turnout.  Funny thing is, I went to put it on her the morning of the party and low and behold, could not get the thing over her head.  The ric rac at the waistline was too snug.  So I had to  pull out a few seams and shove it on.  It was also a little snug over her torso, but it appeared she could still breath fine, so it stayed on for the day.  I guess it was a one time use, but worked for what I needed it for!

The little take home gift…

Another glance of the table…pinwheels in top left at Hobby Lobby in the garden section. The vintage window I borrowed from my friend Michelle, but I’d love my own!  I put some fabric behind it to spruce it up. Water pitchers from Target in the dollar section, I made the big print on wood (found in our garage) with paint and paper, after I saw this cute card on Etsy.   The stuffed pink lamb, I also found on etsy from Magdelene.  I loved its’ unique look at that it was ready to ship in pink!  And my little girl loves to carry it around hugging her.

Extra close up of lamby.  Juliet rocked this one (she says it was only her second time working with fondant). She is starting a local catering business (as in meals, not just treats) you will hear more about that in the future from me.  She was complimented by a very famous chef on her cooking. Sweet Tart Jelly beans around the edge.

Here are my girl and I…love her!

Love that happy face;)

It was lots of fun!  I have always loved doing parties for my kids, and love to make their cakes (I usually do, but glad I didn’t this time) but never did much with decorating and it made it all the more enjoyable.  Maybe it is just for me, but so be it.  Did I cover everything?  Any questions?

Kristen – this is Heather’s sister, Hayley. So – here’s even more of a coinky – dink… Aimee had shared this post or pinned it, I can’t remember what. I liked the Happy birthday banner & had pinned it thinking I’d try to copy it for Mikey’s birthday (maybe just a little more boyish :) ). I just went back to my pins and looked at the post again. There are pictures of Heather & Hopey in it! Crazy. I didn’t remember where I had found the post from… what a small world :)

p.s. I’m adding your blog to my reader. I can’t be sure that Aimee will share everything that I need to see :)

Kristen, How did you make the polka dot banners? Did you tape the circles to the string? WHat kind of string did you use? Did you use a circle punch?
