For those of you newer around here, on Wednesdays, I like to link up to The Pleated Poppy’s What I wore Wednesday. Hundreds of people also link up, and it’s a great spot to look around…see what others are wearing…and get ideas on how other moms around the world are putting pieces together. Some days are more casual, others are more dressed up. It’s become one of my readers favorite things to see. Though for a while I felt a little sheepish posting pictures of myself and my outfits, I’ve just tried to have fun with it, and my kids like to snap the pics. To see my past outfits, click on the Fashion link at the top.
Here is what I wore to church last Sunday. The wind actually blew, and made the bottom a bit of a bell shape.
It had never occured to me to have nude pumps in my closet until a few months ago. My friend Heather was going out of town to a wedding, and was trying to figure out exactly what to wear. She had this lovely pink dress, paired with gray heels. I loved it! Our other friend Alisha weighed in (as she modeled her dress for us) and she suggested nude heels. Neither Heather nor I had them, and hadn’t really thought about it. I took a phone pic of her in both the gray and the nude heels and posted it on instagram to see what the masses had to say. I was SHOCKED that out of the 40 comments, only 2 said gray, and the rest said emphatically, NUDE!

Alisha says that nude heels “elongate the legs” and go with everything. I mulled all of that over for a month or so, I mean…I like color so much, it almost goes against everything I believe in. Then I found a pair at payless for $35. They are super tall, and I kinda have fallen in love with them.

The dress I got in Alaska on my birthday shopping adventure. It’s from Nordstrom (a place I don’t even go to at home), and it’s a silk type material.
I had a photo shoot the other day, so I wore my Kristen Duke Photography that I got at Customizedgirl.com a long long time ago. Just uploaded my logo. Pink shoes from Dots, jeans from Downeast Basics. Crazy hair, too.
After my morning shoot, I kept my trusty denim shorts on, and went for the bright orange T (downeast) and the turquoise head wrap I got on my Utah trip with the leather bracelet I found at an obscure shop.

I wore the same color combo in Alaska with jeans/boots. The key necklace is an oldie–everyone needs a simple key necklace, I think. Goes with everything.
Here are two outfits my fashionista daughter constructed all by herself:

If a dress is too small/too short–no problem, throw a longer skirt underneath. She is also very excited about her new hoop earrings. Sideways cardigan shawl? Shorts over leggings over swimsuit? You know it.
Lastly, I LOVE this casual skirt, and I grabbed my black T, and to jazz it up a notch, got my hot pink necklace (wish I remembered where I got it). And I have flip flops in 5 or 6 different colors…love ‘em in the summer. When I’m looking down, my clicking daughter reminds me, “smile with your teeth!”

Happy closet raiding!

Love you my stylish friend. You wear that black and white skirt so amazing!! And I L-O-V-E that silk tri-color dress. It’s gorgeous!!! I’m now going to have to find an awesome key necklace–I’m enlightened and agree, everyone should have one, right?
Thanks, Wen-Wen! I’m so glad to bring enlightenment via my fashion opions;)
Love your nude heels. They are my must get one day list too. Also, that striped maxi skirt is the best. Fun outfits!

I love that first dress! Such pretty colors together, and the fit is awesome. I love seeing your outfits, Kris. I think of you all the time when I’m putting on accessories, and sometimes go more daring because I love how your fun combos look on you

Love the maxi skirt on you! And you look awesome in orange too! I have a pair of nude heels and I LOVE them, I have a hard time wearing any of my other heels now.
That’s funny you have a hard time wearing your other heels now, it may happen to me soon enough. I just have so many other fun colors…it would be hard to shun them forever!
I LOVE that last look! I’m a big fan of black and white, and the pop of pink is perfect. And yes – nude pumps are definitely a must.
i love a pop of hot pink with anything, but it really pops with the b/w!
Nude heels are an old pageant trick to elongate the leg! Watch the next Miss America and they will all have nude heels for swimsuit

I never noticed it in the pageants, but I believe it!
you are looking so pretty, kristen…
Cass, thanks friend! You always do…
I love the nude shoes too! I bought my first pair about a month ago and I wear them all the time now! That color blocked dress is also amazing- where did you get it?!
Your daughter is too funny! I think I’m too old to fully appreciate the bathing suit with leggings outfit, but please tell her I really liked her idea of putting the skirt under the dress! Love your last outfit. It looks like something I would wear, but I usually chicken out on putting another fun color with it. Looks great though, I really need to try that more often.
Been wanting to get some nude pumps too, but I have the same issue…I feel like I want to add color to my shoe collection! They would be good to have though. Didn’t know they elongated the legs.
Kristen, I love the skirt and pink rosette necklace! You look so fabulous!
Love, love, love that dress!! Such a great color combo. You got some great finds while in Alaska! And I live in nude heels most of the time (when I am dressed in a way that requires heels and not flats). I am short and need every inch of fake length I can get!
