Whoa Nelly, Mardi Gras this year is before Valentine’s Day, I’ve got to get my King Cake on! It’s February 9th, and for those of you that don’t know, I grew up in New Orleans. I lived there most of my kinder through 8th grade, and we went as a family to Mardi Gras parades, and I have the best memories! I STILL have not taken my kids yet, but I really want to, it’s on my bucket list before my son graduates from high school. It’s tough though, because he won’t have school off in Texas like they do in Louisiana, and I might get in trouble with him for pulling him out (he’s so studious). I’ve been chatting with my dad and brothers, and we are crossing our fingers to go next year. It’s later (in March) so hopefully it won’t be so cold. A lot of people tend to associate Mardi Gras celebrations with drunkin’ partying, but it was always a family atmosphere that I knew. Crazy happens everywhere, you gotta know about the right pockets to avoid it. It IS known as the party day before Ash Wednesday, but hey, so is New Year’s Eve, before the resolutions, right? See below for a picture of me as a child, linking to a post I wrote about my Mardi Gras memories.
