These Old Testament Seminary Scripture Mastery Memorization Cards are for anyone who studies the bible in their family or Sunday school class to better learn and understand the verses.

I’ve shared in the past few months that I’m teaching an early morning Bible study class to teenagers. It begins at 5:45am and goes til 6:30am. Whenever people hear that, I get jaw dropping confused stares, but I smile and express how much I love it.  I love it for what it teaches me, I love it for the good Spirit I feel when I’m there, how it boosts my faith and patience throughout the day, and I love those 27 high school freshman kids so dang much it makes my heart hurt with joy. I estimated I put in roughly 15 hours a week including preparing, travel, and teaching, and did I mention I don’t get paid? Yeah, I don’t, but I benefit in blessings, and that’s enough for me.

This year, the book of study is the Old Testament in the Bible. As part of the curriculum, there are 25 selected scriptures called Scripture Mastery, the students are asked to memorize. I have always been a HUGE advocate of the importance of memorizing (If you remember, I started a series a year ago about memorizing scriptures) and it piggy backs off of this concept I learned as a young child.

25 Old Testament Scripture Mastery verses for seminary to memorize, perfect for Bible study groups or personal.

In my church, we begin memorizing important scriptures as a young child, first with the Articles of Faith before the age of 12. As a teen in the youth program, the girls memorize the Young Women theme which incorporates important values, and we recite it each week in class to remind us of the divine youth that we were. When I attended seminary throughout high school (mine started at 6:10 am), I memorized similar 25 scripture mastery verses each year.  I could go on and on about the importance of memorizing scriptures, but I mainly love it because it teaches important lessons, that you can carry with you and think about when in times of doubt or uncertainty.

SOOOOO, I really wanted some great visuals to help my students memorize the 25 scriptures this year. I loved the format my designer created last year with the memorize series, and asked her last June to create all 25 for me, to finish by August. I planned to share them throughout the rest of the year as a monthly share on my site (I got so many people asking why I stopped sharing them since July–I had a reason!). I then calculated that my fee to her would be $900 (she’s worth every penny) but it just sounded like a LOT for this purpose. I made the decision to call it off, and I found someone out there offering another set of designs that looked pretty good. I purchased those designs ($20 for the set), but once I looked at them in full, I really didn’t love them.

I really wrestled with whether or not I should go back to my designer (it’s now September, a few weeks into my teaching) with my tail tucked in, saying, “You remember how I asked you to create these 25 scriptures for me…then you made a few…then I called you off…?  Well, can you actually do it for realzz now, and complete them in the next month or so?” I seriously toyed with that idea for weeks, thinking it was too late, and it would take at least a month til they were done (I have her doing lots of other projects, too) and it just kept tugging at me. I had to do it. I just had to. She was up to the task, and our goal was to be done by January, and she just completed the final design in the last week. We made a bit of a deal, when I asked to see if she could cut the design time in half, with less pictures, in order to save me some $$$ and she did just that, and I’m SO grateful!  It’s worth the investment for me, and I’m going to charge a small fee for the entire pack, to offset that price. Don’t be mad!

I’m offering a few freebie’s so you can see the style, and decide if it’s something you want. For those of you that are teaching seminary, or parents of seminary students, this is the most current set of 25 Old Testament scripture mastery scriptures. For those not of my faith (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a.k.a. Mormons) these are from the King James version of the Bible, and there are 3 verses that come from what we know as the Pearl of Great Price, which is supplement reading to the Old Testament study. They are Moses 1:39, Moses 7:18, and Abraham 3:22-23.

Here is a quick glance at a bunch of the Bible verses:

The purchase of $10 Scripture Mastery set includes 2 PDF’s:

  1. The first is all 25 scriptures bundled on 8.5×11 pages, full size, a 25 page PDF. I suggest printing these as posters on card stock to hang in the classroom.
  2. BONUS! The 2nd PDF is all 25 verses, but 4 to a page. I print these off, cut them, and give them to my students. I’ve got a BIG class, and that’s a lot of color ink, so I often print in black and white, and give them markers to color them the first 5 minutes of class each Monday (we work on a scripture a week with different games and memorization tactics).  They seem to enjoy the coloring, and I see it as searing the images in their brains as they color.  I’m all about imprinting positive images in their sub conscious.

I will also text a color version of the design to them, and suggest they put it on the screen saver of their phones throughout the week.
