On my scattered mind

Hi Friends! Did you notice my lack of posting last week? I’m taking a break. I’ve got a long list of things to post about and projects to work on, but it’s the end of school, so much going on. I’m not sure how the summer posting is going to work out, but I’m telling myself I need to scale back and just relax! My goal will be 3 posts a week, so we’ll see. I’m feeling a bit of a lack of motivation, too.

  • Guess what??? I’m kinda sorta working on another book. It’s a co-author situation with another photographer, geared towards those who have started or want to start a photography business.
  • I’m also having a little website transformation that I’m hoping to reveal in the next week or so. Just cleaning up some things that I’ve needed to do for a while.
  • My kids have this week and next week of school, then it’s SUMMERTIME!! I’m very excited about the adventures ahead. I need to plan out those adventures.
  • If you follow on Instagram, you’ll see I spent my Saturday over the weekend at a waterpark with my son and 300 middle schoolers. Though I had a bajillion things I could have done at home, being with him was golden. It’s not just time spent together, but being immersed in his life in that way in an experience I don’t want to pass up. In middle school, there isn’t much I can do. The opportunities to help at school are SO much less than elementary, so I take what I can get. I chatted with his friends, and had insight into what is going on in his world with those around him. I got to have great chats with his teachers and parents of other students. Golden time, I tell ya. Don’t pass up opportunities to go on field trips with any of your kids–valuable time spent!
  • That same son (7th grader) was inducted  into the National Junior Honors Society. This is so foreign to me, because I wasn’t in any of that “smart” stuff. I barely squeaked by middle and high school, it was hard for me. So to see my child have an event like this blows my mind. He gets it from my husband.
  • My Mother’s Day was great! I got breakfast in bed (eggs and bacon), gourmet salad for lunch (chopped up by husband and kids), and Mongolia Beef (per my request) for dinner. The kids made me cards and massaged my appendages and we just hung out and enjoyed each others company. I don’t need gifts, just acts of kindness are gift enough for me.
  • I get to be a mom of 7 this Memorial Day weekend! I’m watching my brothers 3 kids (4 and under) while they take a couples’ trip.
  • Last Monday I chatted about my confusion with food. I had lots of comments with others thoughts, if you want more, head back and read all about it.

I keep meaning to post about our trip to the Grand Canyon and beyond, but, ya know…. here is one

Grand Canyon Selfie

Tell me what’s on your mind!! If you dare…

  1. I am so looking forward to seeing your Grand Canyon trip photos. Such a beautiful place, and I am sure you captured it wonderfully.

I agree with you on taking the opportunity to be at your kids’ school events and field trips. I was having a break down about not going to one just a couple of months ago. One of my sincere coworkers (mom of 3 boys) talked me into just driving over to the field trip on my lunch break. It did my heart such good to be there. And my son was so surprised and excited to see me. Priceless.

Yes, I accept the partial drop ins on field trip, and count that as about the same! Kid sees you, you get to interact with kids/teachers, everyone wins! I had to miss one that was an hour away because of a conflict, but I had to just Let it GO!! My son was fine, so no harm done. I didn’t actually take a ton at the Grand Canyon, but knowing you are looking forward to it, I’ll crank it out!

Wow, a new book on starting a photography business. Go for it. Are you self-publishing?

Here’s a book idea: why not capture those things you son’s friends told you about life in middle school and write a book based on what they had to say? If you are interested, I am willing to help you write a book proposal query letter (so you see if a publisher is interested in it before you invest your time in writing it). Thoughts? Not that you need another project! 🙂

    Love your pict.

New book=like I did with the others, selling from my site, and maybe try to get it on Amazon, too. Confused on the new book topic: thinks my sounds friends told me about life in middle school. You mean from the field trip? Give me more to work with, Dad, I’m always up for another project;)

  3. I want to see more pics of the GC! 🙂 And yay on another book!!! XO

I am so excited for the new book! I have your first two and read your blog ALL THE TIME. They have taught & inspired me so much that I have started a little photography business. So the new book is going to be perfect, I can not wait(:

PS Your love story is amazing, I can’t wait for the next chapter!!(:

    • Kristen Duke says:

You’re so sweet, Kaycee! The next love story chapter is on the list of things to do SOON, it just keeps getting bumped! I’m happy to hear you’re excited about the next book, and yay on your own little BIZ!

  5. Ummm…my mind is currently in…
-DIETING and REALXING (anxiety made me gain 6 kg last 3 months)
-Montessori education. Trying to find appropriate ‘toys’ and ‘tiggers’ for my baby’s development
-Fighting hard in being a better daughter in law in spite of our evident character differences (totally at loss…help needed…love wins, right?)
-Trying to decide whether to spend Summer as a family with my parents (they have a nice beach house big enough for all of us) or to try to find time alone (the three of us, husband, son and myself)

I think I might be asking too much from myself at the same time :S my mind and heart feel heavy these days

I feel you have a very godd thig flowing at the moment Kristen. Cogratulations on everything achieved!

  6. What a fun packed week. Enjoy watching 7 kids this weekend! This weekend, I will be doing college algebra. Yay….not. Have a great weekend!!

  7. Looking forward to hearing more about your new book! I’m just now catching up from being WAY behind on blog reading. Can’t wait to read your post on the Grand Canyon, too. My husband has been wanting to go there for a long time!
