I’m excited to share with you a great picture backup device called the Picture Keeper. As you can see, it fits in the palm of my hand!

photo backup device

PLEASE tell me you don’t trust just your computer or just your phone to get the job done without a backup. I have had an external hard drive (or two) for quite a while. For a long time, I backed up everything on CD’s, then I hear those won’t last too long.

I was contacted by Picture Keeper to review their product, and get this….I get to give one away, too! Woohoo!  So let me tell you about it. (All opinions are completely my own). CLICK on the AD below to see more on their site.

Picture Keeper is the easiest way to make a backup copy of your pictures. There is embedded software on the Picture Keeper drives that does all of the work for you. No software to install, no wires to connect, and no passwords to remember.

I get scared of new gadgets. I call my husband in because he does better with all things electronica.  I asked him to help me hook this up, left the room for 5 minutes while he  opened the box, and came back and he was all done.

Wait, I needed to take pictures of the process“, I said.

He said, “nothing to take a picture of, you just plug it in and you’re good to go.”

I like easy.

Once the device is plugged in, a pop up will show up on your screen.   It works well with your Mac and PC.  Once you connect the device to your computer, an icon will appear in your desk top. When you click the icon, you will see the Picture Keeper logo. Once there, click on the start backup.

I reviewed their largest size, the PK Pro, which holds up to 250,000 photos (that’s not hard for me, friends). I have extremely large files because I shoot everyone on the BIG camera in RAW. After a while, I’ll delete RAW files, but I keep them around a while. This size of the device is about as big as my iPhone.

What I loved most about this, is the device detects what images are already on it, so when it gets plugged in (or you can keep it plugged in) it automatically knows which are new files and grabs them. Not duplicates! I have so many duplicate folders on my old external because I just didn’t know if I backed it up or not yet.

Today, I get to give away the PK 4 which holds up to 4,000 pictures!

  1. I’ve never heard of this and losing my photos is one of my fears. Thanks for the review.

  2. Kristen,
I’ve never heard of Picture Keeper. What a great idea and product. With the thousands of pictures (yes, I did say thousands, ugh!) that I take this would be a great tool to preserve and safeguard all of them. Thanks for the review.

  3. always something new! Thanks for the chance to win one! And for the review!

  4. I can’t seem to get any of the links to work! Will check back later! Thanks for the review – I had never heard of this product!

    • Kristen Duke says:

Thanks Donna, had a mess up, click on the banner at the bottom or middle of the post, it will take you to their site!

  5. I´m telling you… your giveaways may just be reason enough for me to move to the US 🙂

This sounds awesome. We have 2 external drive backups, and the pictures pile up fast. I only shoot weddings in raw, the rest are jpeg, but that still takes up a lot of space really fast… This would be awesome. I´ll check them out!

    • ps. the first two links to picture keeper didn´t work on my computer. I went through the banner at the end of the post…

      • Kristen Duke says:

Links are now via the banner in the middle and end of the post. I messed that one up! Yeah, sorry about the US only…I just had to ship a box to Korea for someone who won and it was $50! So tricky;(

  6. Raelene Hill says:

LOVE THIS!!! Definitely want one! I always worry about losing pictures! (I clicked on LEARN MORE to get to link. “Click Here” didn’t work!) Any specials linking from your site?

    • Kristen Duke says:

I changed the links, click on the banner ad in the middle of my post or at the bottom. Sign up to win (ship to me) and you will sign up for their emails, they promote sales on their emails.

  7. Seems as though the links in the post are broken. What a great gadget!! I too have folders and then duplicate folders of photos!!

  8. Kristen,
I NEED this! I have precious pictures of my grandchildren that I would be so sad to lose. I have kept one of them since birth and have pictures of her that her parents have never even seen. Thank you for letting me know about this awesome gadget and for the chance to win one.

  9. Love this! I have never heard of it, but definitely interested! I tried the links..but none are working. I will check back. 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win!

    • Kristen Duke says:

THanks for being willing to check back! Little glitch, just click on the banner ad in the post, deleted the text link;)

  10. loved seeing this today! thanks!! 🙂
I just purchased 4 of the PK4s and want to use them this year as giveaways on our facebook photography page.
Any ideas for contests or giveaways???

    • Kristen Duke says:

Yay, glad it was helpful!! Are you asking for an idea on how to run the contest? I like tagging a photo or something, but you have to check Facebook rules. Even just a comment on something like, “why are your photos precious to you”

  11. One of my goals for the new year is to clean up my photos on my computer. They are backed up to the cloud but I wanted another backup too so this is perfect!

    • Kristen Duke says:

My cloud is struggling, I need help with that one! I love how small it is, feel like I can just grab it in an emergency!

  12. What a cool product! Thanks for sharing – wink, wink!

  13. Every time Lightroom asks me to backup my photos I am a “yeah skip this time, I will do it next time” girl. So bad! Especially when I already had a scare when my old laptop broke. I was excited to hear that the Picture Keeper can detect which files you have already transferred and which are new. That little fact is what persuaded me that it might be the better option than just a normal external!

  14. Thanks for posting this!! I have 1000s of pics on my computer and it’s sluggish. I was just looking into options to back them up and remove them from my computer. Thanks Kristen!!

  15. this looks GREAT!! thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  16. I’ve never heard of Photo Keepers. Nice review. I’m going to check it out now. I can relate to having so many duplicates because I’m afraid to delete something before I’m sure it has been backed up.

  17. I NEED this! I’ve lost 2 years of photos on 2 separate occasions. One time is was because I was trying to back things up on an external and it really didn’t move them over. So when I deleted them on my computer they were gone. :/

  18. I lost ALL of my pictures from my daughters 1st year of life and I cried for days! Thank God for facebook because I had a bunch posted on there but not all of them. I would love a device like this to make sure it never happens again!

  19. What an awesome idea!!

  20. Thanks for sharing this information. I back up to another drive, but always worry about whether my pictures are safe. This product looks amazing.

  21. Having lost photos once (a good part of a year!) I back up…but an easier solution would be great =)

  22. Perfect timing! I was just needing to start searching for a way to back up my photos. Looks like I may have found my answer.

  23. Shelly Edmondson says:

This is great! I would love to have all my pictures backed up together in once place, safe and sound. This sounds like the perfect solution for that.

  24. julie spady says:

i feel really dumb….where do i get the code?

  25. Perfect timing! I have been researching options to back up my photographs, both online and external. I think I would be afraid to find out how many pictures I really have! I know it is well over 10,000!!

  26. I need to be better about photo back up. I have heard of this. Sounds super easy. Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. I have one! Got it years ago at the GReat American Scrapbook Convention. I sure could use another!!! I too have several external drives!

  28. this looks awesome!
it was my goal last year to figure out what to do with all the thousands of pictures i have.
i ended the year not doing anything. so frustrating!

  29. Lesa Johnson says:

I’ve tried to enter multiple times and then read about the broken links. I’ve tried the banners in the middle and didn’t see anything about a code or getting their newsletter so I finally just signed up to create an account and see the newsletter option is there. After signing up though I’m still not seeing a code anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  30. Sounds like a great product!

  31. Dianne Stine says:

Can you tell me how to easily backup the photos I have in albums on Facebook to my Picture Keeper USB device? Thank you!
