Each week, I try to be creative with my existing wardrobe, along with challenging myself to spiffy up a little more than yoga pants and a ratty old t-shirt. I’m not saying I don’t do that…just not every day. I link up to The Pleated Poppy’s “What I wore Wednesday” link party, and it’s fun to see what others wear, and get feedback on what I could do differently.  Here are the few outfits I photographed myself wearing this week:

I’ve had my coral bib necklace for a good 2 months, but didn’t take the time to figure out what to wear it with. I love these two colors together, and I think they make a great match. Shirt fom NoVae. I was running out to lunch with friends, so felt a bit more dressed up, and I’m wondering if I should have spiffed up more than the flip flops, but I wanted to tone down my upper half a bit. I also wasn’t thrilled about being matchy matchy with my shoes, but didn’t know what other color to wear. What shoes would you have worn with this outfit?

After the lunch, I spent the afternoon at home baking, so took off my fancier top. When I left in the evening, I didn’t feel like putting it back on, so I grabbed my new (Gap Outlet) striped t-shirt and necklace (old Downeast) in yellow, while keeping the same white jeans.  With the pink and yellow, I was reminded of my coordinated to my daughter’s Pink Lemonade party last  year. So tell me, can I still wear the white after Labor Day next week? Is that a fashion no-no that has been slashed lately (I had heard yes)?

I wore the yellow and turquoise last week when I hosted book club at my home and stayed barefoot. I wasn’t quite sure what to wear it with.  Then when I went to photograph a whimsical birthday party (coming tomorrow to the blog) I thought I’d try it again with some pink accessories. I actually have a pink rose ring that isn’t shown here. Target jeans, shirt Downeast. Shoes very old=Dots. Bracelet=China (the country), earrings (Dave’s wife, gift).

I love dressing with COLOR if you can’t tell, I kinda have to force myself to tone it down, below.

Lastly, matching with my girls to church in cream lace. We’ve done this before, and I blogged it a few months ago, but here are fresh new shots. I love too many of them, so  you’ll get a few. I was SO excited that my first attempt at a french braid for my daughter turned out pretty well!

Older daughters dress from H&M, my necklace not sure where from. Younger daughter top from Wal-Mart (george brand, love it),skirt Target, my top from Forever 21, skirt 12 years old Gap outlet. My new nude pumps from Payless. New mint purse from Target clearance.

Check out the braid!!! And the sweet look on my littles face…

  3. Jacqueline says:

    Love, love, love creamy lace!
I personally wear white for as long as it feels like summer, but I’m no fashion expert.

Just wondering: is it possible to add a comment button to the bottom of the post like on your old blog so that you don’t have to scroll back up to the top to add a comment?

    • Kristen Duke says:

Yes, the comment button was at the bottom and is coming back–I too get annoyed having to scroll back up! (My web html girl had to go out of town just as we were launching the site and we still have tweaks.) I too love white pants,, but I guess not in the full on winter…

  4. I actually love the white pants. I am currently hosting a link up for “White Pants Party!” Come link up!

    Understated Classics

  5. I forget what color your fun Target wedges were, but I would’ve went with wedges for lunch with your girlfriends to complete the look. love the lacey church outfits!

    • Kristen Duke says:

yes, you’re right–great memory! i was going to wear my turquoise wedges, and as i ran out the door, i just wanted to be more casual. wished i had white shoes, or coral!

  6. I love all these outfits! I have wanted to get a bib necklace for awhile now… I think my favorite is the lace outfits!

  7. Love the yellow top! So fun!!

I don’t wear white after Labor Day. I have read recently that it’s OK to do so nowadays but I guess it’s just the old school in me. I just can’t do it. I have also heard there is a difference in whites – there’s a summer white that is more of a no no after Labor Day and then there is a “winter white” that is a go for after Labor Day. But fashion is about expressing yourself, and sometimes you have to color outside the lines to express yourself, so if YOU want to wear white after LD then I say wear white! 😉

  8. the Wall Street Journal had an article today saying that white jeans are cool in the fall now …. 🙂

  9. I really like the pink/white striped blouse with the white pants…and I love the surprise color with the yellow necklace and how you picked up that color again in the sandals 🙂 🙂 Unexpected, but it works 🙂 🙂 I also loved the outfits that your two little girls and you are wearing in the last couple of photos….so frilly and modest and just lovely 🙂 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂 🙂 🙂

  10. Love LOVE the French braid!!! I can’t believe that is your first one! It looks amazing! You go girl! Loving the outfits! You inspire me to wear more color!!!

    • Kristen Duke says:

crazy, right? I’ve thought about the braid in my head for a LONG time! since my mom used to braid mine! And yes, wear more color, TT!

  11. I love the three of you girls dressed so pretty in the cream theme! So sweet. I also am so jealous at how well your Target pants fit you. I L-O-V-E Target clothes, but my short little legs/body just doesn’t fit into them very well 🙁 I stick with the tops though and they usually work okay. You look so FAB in all your pants. Again, especially love you in the Target ones. And I’m a big fan of wearing white year-round. After summer, I like to think of it as “winter white”… 🙂

    • Kristen Duke says:

I do love the Target fashion. Have you ever thought about having your pants tailored? It’d be an extra cost, but a way to still wear all the fun stuff you see and fit it on those short(er) legs of yours!

  12. love, love, love everything. especially the lace. and you can wear white jeans WHENEVER!!!!

  13. Kristen those are such cute outfits!! I was thinking maybe red flats with the turquoise shirt???? It looks like your necklace has some red in it. Just a thought!! The flipflops look great though!!

  14. I agree we need to get out of the “grubbiness” so we will not feel like one. It’s neat to find new combinations for the clothes already in ten closet. This is all new to me…blogging. Fun experience.

I wanted comment on the “tin foil table” could not find anywhere to enter.

  15. Testing. Your outfits look great. I think regular flip flops are for home o grocery shopping. With the girls…a little more flip. I have to keep a few basics for that
