Things to Do in Sedona

Unlike most trips, I did next to zero research on “what to do in Sedona” before I got there. I had a few friends who had gone but just decided to drive up to the information center on the way into town and ask a few questions. My husband was still hobbling a bit from a recent knee surgery, I knew we couldn’t go on too many crazy hikes. Here are our top three places to visit:

  • Cathedral Rock
  • Devil’s Bridge
  • Bell Rock

More Popular Sites To Visit

We didn’t get the chance to visit these popular sites due to the time of year, the amount of days we had, and also my husband’s knee.

  • Slide Rock: Would have been great for Summer lots of water to jump in.
  • Oak Creek Canyon: Also would have been better for summer.
  • Snoopy Rock
  • Chapel of the Holy Cross

Scenic Drives

Sedona is breathtaking from the second you drive in. The Red Rock Scenic Byway (State Route 179) offers stunning views of the red rock formations. Everywhere you go, the drive is beautiful.

What You Need In Sedona

The great part about Sedona is you can do whatever works best for your family because there are so many options. We preferred to go on hikes and enjoy the scenery. If that is something that you are wanting to do here is what I recommend you bring:

  • Good Hiking shoes: If you are not used to red dirt, it gets everywhere! So make sure you don’t bring shoes you don’t want to get stained or dirty. Wear good shoes though for all the hiking.
  • Weather Appropriate Clothing: We went in the winter and were comfortable in pants and light jackets. But Arizona can get very hot so plan for that.
  • Sunscreen
  • Water and Snacks: A lot of these hikes are pretty isolated so make sure you have what you need food and water-wise.
  • Backpack: We got my sons Camelbaks and they loved them!!

Red Rock ATV

For more things to do in Sedona Arizona, we also rented a 6 seater ATV. I highly recommend Red Rock ATV, they were great to work with. I had seen a lot about the Jeep Tours, and I looked into that, but thought it would be more fun to go off on our own adventure, but if I could do it again, I’d do the Jeep tour, because I like history and storytelling.

Where to stay in Sedona AZ

We loved this home, and highly recommend it. It was up in the canyon (almost to Oak Creek) and had so many cute amenities, not to mention thoughtful touches by the owners. We found this on HomeAway!
