Texture in baking
I’ll admit it, I’m not generally much of a cake person, at least in the traditional sense. However, this cherry chocolate almond cake is borderline bread (like a banana bread) with some delicious add-ons that make it feel more like a treat. I LOVE texture in my baked goods, I think that’s why I don’t care for a standard cake with no texture inside. But this cake, which is inspired by Cherry Chocolate Almond Yopait Mix-Ins, is filled with maraschino cherries, mini chocolate chips and slivered almonds, and does not disappoint. Delicious texture in every bite!
If you haven’t every tried cherries in your baked goods, I highly recommend it. At first bite, this Cherry Chocolate Almond Cake reminds me a bit of the cherry miscellaneous bar or the Christmas banana bread that I’ve previous shared on my site. Say YES to cherries! I feel like they are under utilized…under loved.
This cake is inspired by one of my favorite afternoon snacks by Yoplait, the Cherry Chocolate Almond Mix-Ins yogurt. This is mine and my son Matthew’s favorite flavor. I’ve partnered with Yoplait this year as part of their Mom On campaign, where they are encouraging mothers to stop feeling shamed by what society thinks is right or wrong, and listen to your own instincts. I’m HAPPY to be a part of that message!
They even recently shared a humorous hotline number you can call (free of charge) to get a good laugh. Call 1-833-MOM-TIPS to “report” someone not doing their mom job right. Seriously, give it a try!
Cherry Chocolate Almond Cake
Back to the recipe. It’s delicious and my house smelled amazing while it was baking. My family all mentioned the smell at various moments, and I said…”Sorry, we’re not going to eat it tonight, it’s too dark and I have to photograph it tomorrow.” Ha! They are pretty good natured about it, but that aroma really did smell fabulous!
So do you want to see the actual recipe? I also love to share visual step by step photos.

I partnered with Yoplait for this post, but all opinions (and my love of the new Mix-Ins) are all my own!
