I’m happy to introduce Jessica at Mom 4 Real today! She runs a fun home decor blog, with all sorts of crafty ideas, and I LOVE the framed canvas print she is sharing with us today (and the colors)!
Hi, I’m Jessica and I blog at Mom 4 Real!
I love to share craft, DIY, home decor, and cleaning tips that are easy and affordable.
I was thrilled when Kristen asked me to be a part of this series! I love photos, but not portraits and have really felt stuck.
I had no idea how to incorporate some of my favorite photos into our home, so this was a nice challenge, and now my eyes are opening to the possibilities.
I am a true DIY kind of girl, so I’m going to share a a DIY project with you…it’s going to serve as the base for my gallery wall.
I want to show you how to turn an old picture or painting into a display piece for a canvas photo.
I started with an old painting that my neighbor was throwing out. The glass was missing, and it was in pretty bad shape.
I looked at the frame, and new I wanted to do something with it.
I started by popping the print out of the frame and I painted it grey.
Next, I pulled the matting off of the print and painted it grey as well.
Then I painted over the back of the print. I used one coat of primer, then painted one coat of white on.
I used a stencil and some yellow paint to add a chevron pattern.
Once all of the paint was dry, I placed the mat over the chevron print and popped them back into the frame.
I decided on a spot for my frame, then centered the canvas on the frame and put a nail right through the print as it was hanging on the wall.
I know this seems odd, but I wanted the canvas to kind of pop out of the frame.
See the way it pops out…I love it!
Finally framing out this canvas has inspired me to get busy on my gallery wall. I made a trip to Hobby Lobby this weekend and found some fun frames and other items to add, and I cannot wait to get started! Finally, I am incorporating some of our family photos into our home decor!
Here are a few other projects I have worked on lately…
Call Me Graphic Tee (Iron On/Cut with Cricut)
Thanks so much for having me Kristen, and inspiring me to actually use my photos!
