Fresh Squeezed Limeade

Fresh Squeezed Limeade is the perfect drink to make it feel like summer all year long.

About 7 years ago, our friends Gabe & Becca introduced us to the idea of Fresh Squeezed Limeade. I was never a big fan of lemonade, it was too tart for me. It never occurred to me to squeeze a lime instead of a lemon. I fell in love, instantly. Gabe’s mom is from Mexico, and she grew up drinking it daily. Limes, sugar, water– that’s all it is! I’ve shared this simple drink with many friends over the years, and it was new to them, too, so today I share it with all of you!

Simply put, for every lime you squeeze, add 1/4 cup sugar, and 2 cups of water.  So you can make a personal glass that size if you’d like. On a larger scale to fill a standard 2 Liter pitcher (8 cups), follow the recipe below:

Limes, sugar, and water is all you need for this refreshing drink

Ingredients
  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 fresh squeezed limes
Instructions
  1. Squeeze out the lime juice, mix in the sugar and water. Add sugar or limes to taste.

We enjoy it all year round, but it seems especially appropriate to enjoy a cool glass of limeade on a hot summer day.  I love limes and I generally keep them on  hand.   I squeeze limes into my Creamy Jalapeno Ranch Dip, as well as onto my chips that I eat Queso with.  I’ve got another fun lime post coming your way later this week, so stay tuned!

  3. In India, we make these all the time, especially in summer. We call it Nimboo-Paani (Nimboo is lime and Paani is water). Try adding some salt to it, it tastes so much better.

  4. I love limeade! On a cultural note, 🙂 here in Brazil these are our lemons. The big, gorgeous, yellow lemons are Sicilian lemons here and pretty hard to come by at supermarkets! When a recipe calls for limes and lemons many brazilians get a bit confused because although we have some different limes – there’s even a very tart one with an almost orange middle, delicious! – the green lime is the most common for us. Those of us who like to cook try to find the Sicilian lemons because they taste better in food 😀

    I just made a batch of this……it is absolutely delicious! Thank you for the awesome recipe. It hits the spot on a hot day. I live on Maui and when my Lilikoi are ready i will try adding some of that juice for an extra kick.
