Renting snow shoes in Taos was high on my list for a family adventure on our snow trip. Not only for gorgeous scenery and great exercise, but something FUN and different to do with the family. The adventure did not disappoint. If you’ve been following my shares from our Taos New Mexico vacation, this is my 4th and final post, wrapping up all the fun details. Lastly, our snowshoeing adventure!
Renting Snow Shoes in Taos
This was my FAVORITE! I had been dreaming about this snow shoeing adventure for a long time. I went once in college on a double date up in the Tetons in Idaho, and loved it! No one else in my family had ever been, and I was excited to introduce it to them. We love a family hike, and it was basically this in the snow. PLUS, we woke up to fresh snow that day, and it was softly snowing most of the time on our hike. What could be better??
I found Taos Snowshoe Adventures from a Google search, and it worked out so well! Stewart was an amazing tour guide, so kind and patient and knowledgeable about nature. On the snowy morning, we drove very carefully to meet him up near the Angelfire resort (didn’t quite see the resort, but almost got there, saw a new mountain) and he was a really fun part of the adventure. 2 other women and 1 teen girl were also in our group, and we had a great time.
Stewart was very patient with my short-legged adventurous 7 year old, and our guide, and was so sweet with her.
It was a 4 hour adventure, and my husband was worried it would be too long for the young one, but it wasn’t at all. We stopped for hot chocolate/cider that Stewart brought, and then for a chili lunch. I had fun cooling down my piping hot cider with some fresh snow!! Stewart talked about building fires, making sure we picked up our micro trash, and how animals gnaw at the bark of trees for nutrition.
We made some new friends in the group, and one of the ladies told us she took a summer tour with Stewart, Lunch with Llamas….what??? I think that sounds SO cool! It’s a hike where the llamas carry your pack as you steer it up the mountain. They even snapped some family footage for me, my treasures!
Even got some action!
This girl of mine was just FEARLESS in her snow shoes!
My boys loved the adventure, which I loved, too!
Oh, you know, just climbing up a snow bank in snow shoes…just because
