Your monster party isn’t complete without these creepy monster cookies.

These monster cookies are my take on a fun recipe I found over at my friend Lil Luna’s site.   These black and red cookies with creepy eyes are a little scarier than her fun and bright monster cookies.  I made these creepy monster cookie for a group of teenagers, so I wanted something a bit spookier for the older crowd.

I used her same recipe, so you can head on over to her site to grab the recipe.  I liked the eyeballs she used on her monster cookies, but when I saw these green and yellow candy eyeballs, I knew that is what I wanted to use for my Halloween monster cookies.

The cookie recipe uses a cake mix, which means they are very simple to make.  And the monster cookie recipe is a great one to use when baking with kids.  My girls enjoy baking with me and loved making these monster cookies.  Especially the part where they rolled the colored cookie doug in powdered sugar.

To get the rich black and red color, I used the Wilton food coloring paste.  Next time I will use a little more black, but I am happy with the way the monster cookies turned out.  And they taste delicious.
