My Master Bedroom Makeover has been dragging along, and I’m so happy that the day has arrived to share and I can consider it DONE! My husband built our homemade bed almost 2 years ago, drapes hung a year ago, walls/ceiling painted 8 months ago, it was simply the finishing touches that I just couldn’t seem to hammer down. I dedicated the month of April to finish, and I did!If you didn’t realize, my goal is to tackle a room a month around here. In January it was my boys room reveal, in February/March it was my girls Fancy room (it needed two months), and now the Master in April. I heard once that a Master bedroom should be a retreat with no pictures of your kids. I took that to heart and included images from trips my hubby and I took together (Alaska, Vermont, France), and only placed pictures of the two of us throughout the years around the room.

Who doesn’t love some BEFORE & AFTER’s? I used some of the same elements from before, just re-purposed them! Notice the giraffe’s in the corner…
All I could locate were low res files, so slightly pixelated…
There isn’t anything too fancy or exciting DIY wise in this room. The colors are pretty trendy online right now, but I love it. It it is calm and relaxing and I hope I can keep it clean!
Here is a quick little video snippet so you can get a feel for the room as a whole:

To see the other room makeovers I’ve done so far:
I love it!! I love the colors and the details and the intent to make it just for you guys. I am so excited to be decorating a bedroom in just a few weeks and I will be implementing some of these great ideas (though my photos won’t be nearly as amazing!) 🙂
Love ya, EJ, can’t wait to see what you do!
Perfect! If you ever want to redecorate my house the job is yours!!! 😀
It does take up a lot of mental energy!!!
amazing transformation – great job!!
I love the soft colors you chose — and I love the giraffes so much in white! That print above your bed from Alaska is beautiful.
Thank you, Kodi!
Love the fingerprint art! Can’t wait for the tutorial. 🙂 Your room looks awesome!!
I shared the fingerprint art in case you missed it! linked to this post;)
I love it!! It turned out amazing Kristen! You go girl. I like your goal of one room a month. I so need to do that. I have undone projects in almost every room in my house.
Hoping I can stick to it….crossing my fingers!
There’s the cute room you’ve been texting me updates about (: Love it!! Way to go, girl!! I’m so excited to reveal mine later this month. And I didn’t do ANY kid pics (;
Yes, thanks so much for all of the help and input! You gals are the bestest, can’t wait to see your room!!
LOVE the finished job!!! You have alot of talent! and good taste! I really love the yellow pieces and would like to know how you did these pieces, I have some furniture I need to paint and really have no idea what paint to use or how to get the dark edging on them, like you did yours. If you could give me some tips I would really appreciate it! thank you
Hi Emily! After painting them yellow, a dark stain was rubbed around the edges. If you rub it on, and rub it off shortly after, a residue is left that leaves a subtle look. There are lots of tutorials online, but I’ve read so many, I can’t think of one specific spot I saw it! Look up distressing with stains.
Very nice! Calming colors.
Oh Kristen it’s just gorgeous!!! You have created a beautiful, peaceful retreat. Enjoy it!!
Thank you so much, friend!
It’s beautiful, happy and serene. I am excited for the tutorial on the fingerprint palette art.
I also love the idea of putting some framed picture of you and your hubby in the bedroom, it’s a perfect reflection of your special space.
Thank you, Stevie, I love looking at current and vintage pics of “us!” I posted the fingerprint art tutorial, it is attached at the link at the bottom of this post, or go under diy projects on my site!
BEAUTIFUL!! Love the colors (even if they are trendy!)
love that fingerprint art! can’t wait to see how you made it!
Embee, did you see the fingerprint art tutorial I posted the day after this? If not, you can link from it on this post or under diy projects at the top of my site!
I love this yellow! What is the color you used?
Hmm, I’m going to have to dig around a little, the yellow on the furniture or the art pieces?
Thanks for response, the furniture…gorgeous! Also what blue is on the curvy frame of you and your husband on the wall?
Did you ever find the color you used for the dresser and night tables? I love that yellow! I’m redoing an armoire and would love to do it in this yellow.
I’d love to know the paint colors you used as well! For the yellow and blues!
Love your beachie summer time colors. I’m slowly transforming our master bedroom to my little beach paradise. LOVE the beach. I love the finger print wall hanging. Is that your actual prints? I see you used some pictures from your trip to Alaska. Now you can check that off your list. Nice job.
Yes, it’s our actual prints, I posted the tutorial for the fingerprint art the next day, you can link to it from the bottom of this post or under diy projects!
Your master bedroom is very beautiful…:) the signs are gorgeous! I love them!
I think I would have lined the top of the photograph above your bed to the top of your wooden signs, but that’s just maniac me 🙂
Curious me..and my curiosity with Mormon religion :)…what type of signs express your religious views in your house? is this typical in Mormon religion or not?
Like many Catholic house can (or can not, but some do..) incorporate crosses, angels,… I don’t have any religious ‘signs’ as such at home, apart from my Bible and New Testament lying anywhere in the living room as it’s being used and I wonder how you incoporate this signs if you do. Not that i think this should be done…just curious 🙂 (as usual hehe)
Hi Leire! Great question about faith expressed in the home! We don’t do crosses, as we try to focus on the Atonement of the Savior vs. the Crucifixion, but I do have a painting of the Savior in the front room of my home, as well as the temple that my husband and I were married in–both symbols of our beliefs. I also gifted my husband a painting of the Sacred Grove that we believe Joseph Smith had his vision with God the Father and Jesus.
It’s funny you mentioned the signs and picture not lining up–they were lined up and I thought it was too straight, so I lowered the print a little to be off center a bit! Personal preference I guess!
looks so great! please come re-do my master now. i’ll even take the “before” pictures for you haha 🙂
Oh girlie, I’ll give you all of my before!
This room is gorgeous! I adore the colors and love the light/airy feel. I absolutely die over those giraffes…they are AWESOME!
Today, I am starting a social media blog hop with 5 other ladies I met at Snap Conference. Each week features a new social media link up starting with Facebook today. I hope you will come over to link up at Just Us Four!
Thank you, I love my new giraffe’s, too!!
This looks fantastic! I love all the personal touches. My hubby and I desperately need to create an escape for us in our bedroom. We’ve never decorated any of our master bedrooms in the past. We just got a new bedskirt and duvet, so maybe your inspiration will help me want to do more. Thanks!
A new duvet and bedskirt sounds great!!
I love the pops of yellow! Fabulous!
Thank you, Cari, yellow is so happy, isn’t it?
wow! I LOVE the space! It’s so fresh and fun and personal!
Love the color choices for this room! I was wondering what the wall paint color is?? Thank you!
Strangely enough, the paint can doesn’t have the color on it!! I need to find out…
Looks great! Just wondering about your paint colors?
I can’t find the paint color on the can, need to call the store–sorry!
What a wonderful retreat to come home to at the end of the day! Well done!
How pretty! I love the color choice – even though I usually don’t like yellow. The art is great, too!
What is the name of the paint color on the wall?
Super pretty Kristen! I love the color scheme, so welcoming. The pops of yellow are fabulous 🙂 Enjoy!
Love your room! Can you please tell me where you ordered the panoramic picture over your bed? I have some panos I’d like to print, but I want to make sure I find a good place. Thanks!
Thanks for the reminder, I need to do a tutorial because I actually pasted together 2 prints!
Gorgeous Kristen! My bedroom is sadly neglected and really could use a makeover!
Love the wall hanging, and that trunk is just perfection.
Oh my gosh!!! I am loving how relaxing your room is!! What a fun idea to only include pics of you and your hubby and places you’ve been in your room. I keep hinting to my hubby that I want our bedroom redone. I guess I could start on things like pics and art work. Your yellow dresser is amazing…I love all the fun colors you used!!!
thank you, friend! Yes, just start small–pictures and art!!
What a gorgeous room! Love the yellow furniture and the fingerprint artwork.
Such pretty colors!! Love it all.
I love love love how bright and cheery this room is! Just like you : )
You did an awesome job, and I’m totally crushing on that pallet art!
xoxo Liz
Thank you, Liz, you are so sweet!!
Kristen,
Looks wonderful! So inspiring! I do have one quick question. I’m absolutely IN LOVE with your night tables! Where did you get them or who made them? They are to die for!!!! Love!
Brandy 😉
Hi Brandy, The end tables are vintage! My parents had them in our home growing up (dark wood stained) and they held their vinyl records! I painted them white a few years ago and yellow most recently!
It looks great, Kristen! I LOVE the glazing that’s on the yellow dresser! That’s what I had been hoping to do with mine, but I chickened out since it didn’t look anything like that. It’s gorgeous – the whole room is!
Thank you so much, Heidi! The glazing really does give it a nice dimension;)
I love the redo! And I love that more people are brave enough to try colors beyond brown and black. It inspires me. My favorite are the repurposed giraffes.
I love the giraffe’s, too! And yes, I love color all over the place!!
You rocked it!! Great art and the blue trunk is gorgeous! Love the giraffe family too!
Kelly
LOVE this Kristen! 🙂 So peaceful and happy!
Kristen, you are just about the cutest thing!!!! I’m been absorbed in your sidebar!!! What a good healthy take on life you have!!! Keep spreading your joy! It certainly comes through in your bright and cheery bedroom makeover!!! I just love it and would be so happy there too! The thumbprints are brilliant!
Yvonne, you are so stinkin’ sweet! Thanks for sharing the LOVE, and letting me know you love my little corner of the web! I enjoy writing and sharing:)
It’s so bright and cheery, it’s beautiful. I am trying to make myself tackle our MB. I just can seem to decide what I want.
I love it! The wall color is so soothing, and the yellow and turquoise are my favorite colors. I loved your video, you are so cute. If you get a chance, please link up to my party: http://suburbsmama.blogspot.com/2013/06/sunday-linky-party-10.html
I love every last piece!
Love it! I love all the personal touches and your colour scheme is so pretty – I am a huge fan of colour and use a lot of it in my décor so I love to see other rooms where people have embraced colour in such a pretty way. Amazing job!!
Krista
Love the colors Kristen! Nice job!
So cute! I am featuring it tonight!
You did an amazing job! I love it, how do you ever leave your room with all those cute litte giraffes partying there? 🙂 Michelle
ha! That made me laugh out loud—who knows what they are doing when I step out of the room;)
just wondering where you got your teal trunk from?
I love the bed your husband made!!! He did an amazing job. I was wondering if you could tell me what paint color you used on it. Is it a silver color?
thankyou! It’s a metallic color. I got it at home depot–martha stewart, and it is really small. Not sure if they still have it, but look for a metallic silver if not.
HI
I am in love with the color of the bed, is it like a silver/pewter color?
What is it? How do I do it?
Starting my master bedroom remodel and I was just going to paint the bed white but that color is amazing.
Thanks
Skye
I love the silver, too! It is metallic, Martha Stewart from home Depot. Not sure if they sell it anymore, but when I got it a few years ago, it was in a very small jar (fit in my palm) and I used 2 or 3 of them.
What a lovely master bedroom you got there. I really like the yellow and white color combination of the wall paint and those pieces of furniture. You and your husband did an excellent job! And those photographs are amazing, by the way.
Your room looks wonderful! I really love the colour combination. What is the name of the grey colour on your wall?
I love this bed. I have been looking for something similar to this because I have my mothers dresser and nightstand from when she was a little girl and I have redone it, but I needed a bed frame. IS this a king size and would you happen to have the dimensions? My bedroom is yellow, aqua and grey! LOVE THIS
